This is an archived posting from my previous website “Chips Antidotal Wanderings” – a personal blog about family, creative moments, and pain management activities in my life. That blog was active from 2004-2011.

I Love to Doodle

It may seem like a strange obsession to you, but it’s just one of those things I like to do.  A lot! If I’m sitting and watching TV I’m doodling. When I’m stuck in a meeting, I’m doodling. Enjoying a few moments in the garden swing, just taking in fresh air…. well I’ve usually got one of my artful journals with me and yeah – I’m most likely adding some doodles along the way. I don’t usually think of myself as a fidgety person, but maybe I am since I don’t like to sit perfectly still and prefer to have my hands doing something creative.

It’s a “Me” Thing

I like showing off my little pieces of art here and there… at least to my crafty friends. Strangely enough though, I don’t tend to share my doodles with others.  Now why is that? I’m not really sure.  I know that when I doodle my mind is either relaxed and I’m just enjoying the flow of the pen, or I’m wrapped up in a focused energy cloud and I don’t want to let anyone in besides me and my muse.  So maybe it’s been like a weird private thing? Results of my “me moments.” I don’t honestly know. Once in a while I’ve been known to share my doodles, but usually they just pile up in my own cluttery art-studio, bringing me some sense of accomplishment when I’ve done no other creative projects that week.

DailyDoodles

About a month or so I subscribed to the DailyDoodle YouTube channel because I like watching time lapsed doodles almost as much as I like doodling myself.  This gal is a talented doodler. Like many times before, last week the artist started several of her doodles using a circle. Here’s an example of one of her circle inspired doodles.

Pretty awesome. Right? Yeah, I think so too.

The Talented JeanneLee

So after seeing the 3 doodles she did last week that started with a circle, I launched a new artful challenge at CHW for those who like to doodle now and again. JeannesDoodlePieces Jeanne was the first to post her doodle. Two things about her terrific doodle that really stood out in my mind.  These little florally things that look like popcorn kernals to me (mmm… now I’m hungry).  And the sun-shiny shapes she put in the middle.  You just can never go wrong with a sunshine in my book!  You can see Jeanne’s full doodle art piece by logging into the CHW forums and checking out the challenge thread. [Update: the CHW forums is no longer online.]

My Newest Circle Doodles:

I want to see your doodles!  So if you’ve posted a doodle somewhere online, please leave me a comment here with a link to your creations. I always get so inspired by the doodles of others.  If I show you mine – will you show me yours? (Hey – get your mind out of the gutter! I’m talking about doodles, my friends!) Here’s the two doodles I did for the CHW artful challenge:

I had fun with the challenge and I’ll have another one for us to play with again next week.  Doodling requires no special talents or artistic skills.  After all – it’s just free-form lines and such like you might do while chatting on the phone or waiting in the doctors office.  I especially like doodling repeated patterns.  Maybe that’s what I’ll have our next artful challenge based on.  I hope you’ll come join us for a wee bit of doodling around!

Maybe I’ll even get up enough nerve to share my creative process with you, like the DailyDoodle gal does.  Not sure I’m really up to that. Let me get used to the idea of sharing my ‘me time’ little doodles with you first.

In the mean time, how about I just share with you another one of her circlies she’s shared on YouTube.  I find her videos so mesmerizing.   Enjoy!

One can never see too many doodles in life.  😀 ~Cindy
